From a hand-rolled bootloader to Deep Work, a productivity app that now runs on phones and the web.

Hi, I’m @Segni_Assaye. This sandbox is where I put in the work, a record of my obsession with building and the person I’m becoming through it. Just me and the problems I haven't solved yet. My Portfoilo: https://segni.is-a.dev

Segni’s Sandbox is a build-in-public log that got moving fast: in its first month it introduced Apex, a crash-monitoring engine, and WinPort, a browser workspace of draggable windows. Between builds it teaches in short, practical posts, like why skeleton UIs beat spinners and how API keys leak into frontend bundles. Since August the spotlight has been on Deep Work, a productivity app that landed on the web in October.

    Sprint and Ship

The channel opened with a 90-day sprint challenge (fix the CV, set up the stack, build momentum) and picked up Go for a new project. By month's end it had chased down a deploy bug, a missing Auth URL on Render, and introduced Apex and WinPort.

    Down to the Metal

April went low-level: the channel wrote its own bootloader with NASM and QEMU, then listed the lessons, from MBR versus GPT to real and protected mode. Other projects paused it for a while, and in May the channel cleared its plate to get back to it.

    The Tip Sheet

Between builds the feed doubled as a tip sheet: React and Next.js layout architecture, REST versus GraphQL, skeleton UIs over spinners. The standout warning: a .env file alone won't keep API keys out of a frontend bundle.

    Hackathon Day

June brought a return to C++, where C++26 impressed by cutting boilerplate for web microservices. Then came the ALx Wellness Hackathon, covered in a burst of posts on the day, from arrival to the panel discussion to a last-minute exhale.

A quick way to check whether your API keys are leaking into your frontend bundle.

It’s one thing to call an API and it’s a whole different world to understand how Bootloaders actually wake up the hardware.
